Speaking during the 1st inaugural graduation ceremony of The Mombasa Polytechnic University college, the Chancellor of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology Professor Francis Gichaga urged graduands to face the new challenges with confidence and determination
“ We live in a very complex and competitive world given the transformation we are going through towards Globalization, you need to be prepared to face the inevitable eventuality starting with newly created and wider East African Community….” He said
Professor Gichaga , who participated in the design of the college teaching facilities three decades ago, also challenged the management to ensure various organs of the University, including councils and committees are facilitated to enable them discharge their responsibilities efficiently.
The Chancellor was accompanied by the Vice Chancellor Professor Mabel Imbuga. He emphasized on the need for the institution to invest in research , development and innovation as an effort to achieve Kenya vision 2030
Vice Chancellor Prof. Mabel Imbuga congratulated MPUC for being the first of the four JKUAT constituent Colleges to stage up graduation ceremony. She added that as JKUAT they are proud to be associated with the University College and assured of continued support as it prepares to acquire its own university autonomy.
The Minister cautioned the graduands and the students to keep off drugs and instead dedicate their time in developing the country. “The country is in the mood to fight drug use and trafficking. You should avoid drugs as you would avoid leprosy….”
Mombasa Polytechnic acquired its elevation to a University College , a constituent College of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and technology on August 23rd , 2007 through legal order no. 160
